Thalavoor is a land rich in ancient heritage and socio-cultural significance. It is believed that the name “Thalavoor” originated from the phrase “Thalaivar Vazhum Oor,” meaning “the land where leaders lived.” This region, which was once part of the former princely state of Travancore, served as a center of landlords and local chieftains. The famous Thalavoor Pooram festival, ancient temples, churches, and traditional stone platforms known as “Kalathattus” stand as symbols of its rich past. The historic Kollam–Sengottai railway line and the old royal route passing through the region played an important role in the development of the area.
